  • appoints the editors of the newsletter and web site
  • recommends communication policies for approval by the GAJE Steering Committee (SC)
  • implements communication policies as directed by the SC

Like other GAJE committees, the communication committee meets by email and reaches decisions whenever possible by consensus. The committee serves a one-year term starting in January. The communication committee chair(s) are appointed by the SC and the other members are appointed by the communication committee chair(s). The 2008 co-chairs are Frank Bloch (USA) and Ved Kumari (India).

GAJE E-Newsletter

In 2005 the GAJE Steering Committee approved the establishment of an e-newsletter to be circulated by email to all GAJE members who have signed up to the GAJE listserve. The material in each newsletter is also posted on www.gaje.org. This newsletter is a forum, primarily, for GAJE members to advertise upcoming events, conferences, activities, projects, job opportunities, publications etc.The newsletter is published every even numbered month (February, April, etc). Initially the newsletter appeared only in English but has been published in both English and Spanish since December 2006.

The editor circulates a draft of the newsletter to the communications committee for a two-day comment period after which the editor publishes the newsletter by email. The web site editor then posts the newsletter on the GAJE web site.

All GAJE members are encouraged to submit any relevant information.Submissions are sent to the Editor at gajenewsletter@gmail.com and should be received at least 7 days before the first day of the publication month.

The Editor in consultation with the GAJE Communications Committee reserves the right not to include any material in the newsletter which the editor believes to be irrelevant or discriminatory. Persons submitting information received from another source, such as a newsletter, email notice, or web site, are asked to comply with any policies indicated by that source for copying and redistributing, such as including an attribution to that source. The preferred format for submission appears on the GAJE E-Newsletter home page.

At the end of each newsletter the following disclaimer appears: "The material in this newsletter is simply a collation of material submitted for distribution to GAJE members. The inclusion of any material in this newsletter does not constitute an endorsement of it by GAJE."

The newsletter has a rotating editorship. The current editor of the GAJE Newsletter is Raven Lidman (USA).Spanish translation is provided by Maria Soledad Sequeira Neme and Celeste Romero (Argentina). Past editors of the newsletter are Ed Santow - 2005 (Australia), George Mukundi - 2006 (Kenya), and Ved Kumari - 2007 (India).

GAJE Web Site

The URL address of the GAJE web site is www.gaje.org . The purposes of the web site are:

  • to publicize the organization
  • to provide an overview of GAJE
  • to publish information about the activities of GAJE members
  • to be the first place where people interested in justice education go to find out
    • about upcoming events (not just GAJE events)
    • who is doing justice education in various countries, what they are doing, and how to contact them
    • about articles, teaching materials, and other web sites relating to justice education.

The communication committee is the editorial board of the web site.  Its members control the format and content of the web site and do not need the prior approval of the SC to edit and add content to the web site. If the SC wishes a change made to the web site, the SC can direct the CC to make that change.

The website's publisher has responsibility for the mechanics of putting content on the web site but not for writing the content (except as may be specified for certain projects).

The editor of the web site has the following responsibilities (listed in order of importance):

  • Correct web pages that have become outdated.
  • Update existing web pages as new material becomes available
  • Add new web pages
